Inspired Reflection - Anh Nguyen the 11th Grader!

Hey myself,

Since you're pretty much the only one reading this, I thought I might as well use this as a sort of secret little progress log for English. A lot of the times, I know you just want to look at the old English essays you wrote (and then scoff that you used to be so proud of them), so here it is!

Reasons I'm proud of this essay: the panda and light bulb metaphor. #deep =))
Inspired Reflection

Did you know pandas can’t digest bamboo? Their short digestive tracts are only meant to digest meat. Consequently, pandas suffer from constant indigestion coupled with acute energy deficiency: they only garner a dismal amount of 20 percent energy from their diet.  Yet against all odds, pandas still choose to eat bamboos. Why? Purely because they love them.  Pandas are the anomalies of evolution, or as Emily Dickinson’s poem “Much madness is divinest sense” would describe them, “demurrers” of “the majority”.
Most humans are unlike pandas in that way; we do not dare stand up against the prevailing majority, for we fear being “handled with a chain”’.  I used to fall victim to this mindset, especially while stressing over colleges. Oh, she’s learning the piano? Okay, I’ll do that. Oh, he’s out doing community service? Guess I’ll sign up too. Gradually, my being became synonymous with a light bulb – though I shined, my light would be negated by others’. Fed up and tired, I took up art, despite knowing this has no direct correlation to my desired careers.  This “madness” of a decision turned out to be the “divinest sense”. I might have “chained” my chances of getting accepted away because I strayed from the route others are taking, but so what? A flickering light bulb is always more easily noticed in a row of brightly lit ones.

People don’t step up for fear of being “handled with a chain". Yet like the pandas, although they are “chained” to indigestion, the simple act of eating their favorite food helps ensure their survival, since bamboo is easier to find in their habitat than prey. So if a panda isn't afraid of a meager chain, should you be? The sure answer is no, so stand up, because the chain you are so afraid of  will become the greatest weapon you have ever had.

Iunno man I thought this was kinda cute. What do you think future Anh?
