What Do I Stand For

I am back yet again with another speech. Haha.

"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." - Peter Marshall.

What do you stand for?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Success: It’s attaining your goals, bouncing back upwards every time you fall, championing all odds and rising to the top…
Or maybe, it’s not.
Let’s be realistic: you will miss goals in life, you will not bounce back up every time you fall, and there is only so much space at the “top” for people to rise to. A cynical thought indeed.
In truth, we are obsessed with ranking, with rising. But we do not realize that even in the midst of that, we all fall. After all, we can’t blame gravity for falling in love.
Take a leaf and a seed for example. Both start off with the same goal: height. The leaf wants to grow at the highest, sunniest spot, and the seed wants to grow into the loftiest tree.  At one point, both have to fall. Consequently, the seed begins to germinate, and matures into a tall sturdy tree. In contrast, the leaf – if not by some miracle – will never be able to rise up to its former height. However, is it accurate to state that the leaf has failed? No.
I am a firm believer in fluidity and transformation. The leaf falls. Yet, now, it has a novel goal; an imperative part of the soil, it nurtures and supports countless future trees. Humans are no different from leaves, we constantly respond to the ebbing and flowing of the tide of life. Therefore, acknowledge that things change, recognize some goals are trivial in the first place, and focus on what unexpected results going along with the fall will get you.

I stand for falling. People are too obsessed with the top – with rising above others. Personally, the concept seems trite and boring. Do not be fooled, falling down is not the same as complying with failure. It is merely a medium for change, for flexibility, for open-mindedness; it is for people to open their eyes to the many opportunities they are missing by staying ensconced at the top. That is why I’ll fall. I’ll fall down. Fall left. Fall right. Fall under a spell. Fall in love. I’ll fall – to succeed.

Inspired Reflection - Anh Nguyen the 11th Grader!

Hey myself,

Since you're pretty much the only one reading this, I thought I might as well use this as a sort of secret little progress log for English. A lot of the times, I know you just want to look at the old English essays you wrote (and then scoff that you used to be so proud of them), so here it is!

Reasons I'm proud of this essay: the panda and light bulb metaphor. #deep =))
Inspired Reflection

Did you know pandas can’t digest bamboo? Their short digestive tracts are only meant to digest meat. Consequently, pandas suffer from constant indigestion coupled with acute energy deficiency: they only garner a dismal amount of 20 percent energy from their diet.  Yet against all odds, pandas still choose to eat bamboos. Why? Purely because they love them.  Pandas are the anomalies of evolution, or as Emily Dickinson’s poem “Much madness is divinest sense” would describe them, “demurrers” of “the majority”.
Most humans are unlike pandas in that way; we do not dare stand up against the prevailing majority, for we fear being “handled with a chain”’.  I used to fall victim to this mindset, especially while stressing over colleges. Oh, she’s learning the piano? Okay, I’ll do that. Oh, he’s out doing community service? Guess I’ll sign up too. Gradually, my being became synonymous with a light bulb – though I shined, my light would be negated by others’. Fed up and tired, I took up art, despite knowing this has no direct correlation to my desired careers.  This “madness” of a decision turned out to be the “divinest sense”. I might have “chained” my chances of getting accepted away because I strayed from the route others are taking, but so what? A flickering light bulb is always more easily noticed in a row of brightly lit ones.

People don’t step up for fear of being “handled with a chain". Yet like the pandas, although they are “chained” to indigestion, the simple act of eating their favorite food helps ensure their survival, since bamboo is easier to find in their habitat than prey. So if a panda isn't afraid of a meager chain, should you be? The sure answer is no, so stand up, because the chain you are so afraid of  will become the greatest weapon you have ever had.

Iunno man I thought this was kinda cute. What do you think future Anh?

What is it like to be sane?
What is it like to feel insane?
Sometimes, you could be between the two zones and yet not know about it.
Being insane means being crazy, no? Well, what exactly do people mean when they call you crazy?
To us, crazy means being different, but think about it, are the so called insane people really crazy?
     Are they really?
     Aren't we crazy?
     But aren't we sane?
Without knowing it, the sane ones plunge into the world of insanity...
     ....In a split second
You hear a knocking on the door
At that moment, you find yourself crossing the border of sanity.
What will you do, if a white devil, and a black angel come knocking on your door?
So what IS it like to be sane?
And answer me dear readers, what is it like, to feel insane?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
END

Dear readers, after reading this thought provoking paragraph (or at least to me it is....)
I welcome you........
.....to the beautiful art...
.....of insanity....

YEAH! I SENT IT TO SOME OF MY FRIENDS AND THEY'RE LIKE: "I DON'T GET IT! Anh you're insane!" And I'm like, Insanity makes Genius. =]] I'm so crazy sometimes, yet so GENIUS =]].

11th grade update: I now know I was trying too hard to sound smart and deep =)))))

Anh is BACK! (even though she's an 8th grader, yes)

But evilness doesn't deal with age, no?
so ANYWAY!
I had nothing to do, AND SO, I decided I'll type up a story on THIS blog, (you know, since it's LA blog), and I haven't written a story in suchhh a long time that it's bothering me. SO! Yeah....

It was Friday morning, and Anh woke up realizing she was really bored. It was holiday, and she had absolutely nothing to do. She tried many things, such as watching T.V (no, not T.Vy, that would be REALLY awkward), reading books, but then she realized, she was still really REALLY bored.
She ran upstairs and asked her parents, "Mom, dad, what should I do?"
They replied, "You can start with your homework, or studying too."
     I said, " I'll skip that, since I don't want to."
So with that, Anh zoomed herself downstairs. Her parents didn't help much, and she was so really really REALLY bored. With nothing to do, she took out her phone, turned on the game, and stared at it. And she was still really really really REALLY bored.
Finally, Anh couldn't take it anymore. She dialed her cousins' number.
     "Hello?" her cousins said.
"Did I mention that I'm really really really really REALLY bored?" Anh asked
     "...Eh?"
"No? Well then, I'm really really really really reallllyyyy REALLLLYYY BORED! D:"
"Well," they said, " If you're really really bored, and you can't take it anymore, why not go with us to the stores?"
     And so she did.
     And she wasn't bored anymore.
That night, she slept happily, with her tummy stuffed with delicious food from the stores. And it was the next morning, when Anh woke up realizing, "I'm bored."
     And the whole cycle repeats.
-----THE END-----
Well yeah it was lame and not very detailed, but it was a fun read. I bet it was
 Crowd: Booooooooo!
EY! It wasn't THAT boring. Perhaps a bit ............... BUTTTTTT IT WAS VERYY FUNN FOR YOU MS PATRICE! WASN'T IT??? :D

Invention of the Popular Cartoons

Do you agree/disagree with Grossman?

I think Grossman is a very clever person to actually think of all that, and I have to say, his logic is good. Yes, i do agree with him, video games are just like cigarettes. They're amazingly addictive with an intoxicating ingredient. Adults producing games like that to children would make them feel like it's okay to kill, even in the real world. However, I don't think Grossman can blame it all on the games making industry, parents and other adults should be responsible, too. The situation wouldn't get as bad as Grossman showed it would be if the parents would spend enough time with the child to find out if its desensitizing and put a stop to it.

Should twelve and thirteen year olds be able to play any video game they want?

No, I really don't think so. In my opinion, it is fine to play un-educational games such as playing dress up, but the online world is filled with violence and adults contents. Those games are not appropriate for twelve and thirteen year olds in any ways. Violent games can build violent thoughts, and I wouldn't even mention what adult contents could do. Twelve and thirteen year olds could certainly play puzzle, strategy, skill games(taptap) games, etc, but I completely go against the idea that they could play any games they want!
